Meditations
These meditations are conducted by Mr. Miller, an assistant instructor at Moore’s Martial Arts Academy. Mr. Miller began practicing meditation and hypnotherapy in 1985 to improve study skills and concentration in college. For more than thirty-five years, he has studied the methods of religious teachers, such as Thich Nhat Hanh, Steve Hagen, and Thomas Merton, as well as non-religious teachers, such as Sam Harris and Stacey Millner-Collins.
Meditation empowers a student to gain control over thoughts and emotions, to separate them, and to use them most effectively.
The exercise called “Instant Relaxation” has many different names that span many different cultures. Behavioral scientists call it “operant conditioning.” Sometimes it’s called “Pavlovian conditioning”. Some yoga practitioners call it “the Bagha”. It has been applied all over the world across many centuries because it is effective. This technique is very useful for competition because no one can see you doing it. But there are many applications for this in everyday life–waiting at a traffic light, standing in line at a grocery store, enduring a long meeting at work, and so on. Establish this technique during meditation, and then call on it when you are busy and need instant control.
